Innovations in digital technology and the global economic crisis have fueled a need for independent reporting through the use of multimedia. In the winter of 2008, four journalists and I embarked on the East Africa Reporting Initiative to the countries of Ethiopia and Kenya. As part of the nonprofit, independent organization The Common Language Project (CLP), we investigated the region's struggle to secure the world's more basic resource - water.

In Search of an Oasis tells the story of our motivations, reactions and adaptations to the changing face of journalism, while capturing the inspiration behind a nonprofit approach to storytelling. Oasis highlights some of the challenges and poignant moments we faced, and how we better came to understand the world and ourselves.
