After 10 minutes the amphibian stops jumping and the beetle moves onto the amphibian's back, biting at the lower back area. The beetle makes a horizontal incision using its mandibles, causing the amphibian to cease moving. During feeding the beetle's abdomen swells noticeably. The beetle can be seen feeding on the amphibian's eyes as well.
